This 1978 Porsche 924 is one of a claimed 16 examples that were factory-developed in Weissach, Germany, for use in Sports Car Club of America racing events. Chassis #010 is said to have been initially delivered to Holbert Racing in Pennsylvania, where it was prepped for D Production racing and later modified for use in the C Production class. The car was acquired by David Finch of Raetech Motorsports Engineering in the early 1980s and sold to Tom Brennan in 1986, who retained ownership through 2023. Wearing a white #1 livery, the car is powered by a 2.0-liter inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes Bosch mechanical fuel injection, dry-sump lubrication, a front anti-roll bar, ventilated disc brakes, multi-piece 15″ BBS wheels, a roll cage, and a fuel cell. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, this 933 is now offered at no reserve in Arizona with spare parts, manufacturer’s literature, an SCCA document, and a bill of sale. Porsche utilized SCCA racing in the late 1970s to both explore the 924’s capabilities as a race car and collect data for developing other vehicles in accordance with the upcoming 1982 FIA International GT regulation changes. The 924 D Production cars, given the project number “933”, could be purchased as an assembled car by the factory or as a knocked-down kit containing everything needed to make a functional race car with the exception of a windshield, fuel-cell bladder, and tires. The 933 secured multiple victories at the SSCA National Championship Runoffs at Road Atlanta, after which, the D Production category was discontinued. This example’s bodywork is finished in white with multi-color stripes and the number 1 painted on the hood and doors. The rear quarter panels are said to have been replaced with Porsche 944-sourced steel units, and further exterior details include front and rear spoilers, hood pins, an external kill switch, and plexiglass windows. Various areas of wear in the finish are shown up close in the photo gallery below. Multi-piece 15″ BBS wheels feature gold basketweave centers and are mounted with Hoosier racing slicks. The car rides on a fully independent suspension with coilovers at each corner, front MacPherson struts, a front anti-roll bar, and rear trailing arms. Stopping power is provided by ATE calipers over four-wheel ventilated rotors. The cockpit houses a single racing seat trimmed in black cloth with an Autoflug multi-point harness. A roll cage is installed, and the trunk-mounted fuel cell is said to have been replaced in July 2023. The three-spoke MOMO steering wheel is mounted to a quick-release hub and fronts VDO instrumentation that includes a 10k-rpm tachometer, a pair of combination gauges, and an oil temperature gauge. The car is not equipped with a speedometer or an odometer, and total mileage is unknown. The 2.0-liter inline-four sits below a strut brace and features a single overhead camshaft, dry-sump lubrication, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Service performed in July 2023 is said to have involved replacing the battery, flushing the coolant, and changing the oil. The selling dealer recommends recommissioning the vehicle prior to track use. Compression test readings are viewable in the gallery below. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery below. A press kit, a 924 Specification Guide, an SCCA document, and spare parts are included in the sale. The car is not legal for road use and does not have a title. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
