This 1978 Lola T492 was reportedly imported by Carl Haas in October 1978 before being campaigned by Rick Galles in the SCCA for two seasons. Following 33 years of storage, the seller acquired the car in 2016 and commissioned an extensive restoration which reportedly cost over $50k. New body panels came from TW Mouldings, and the 2.0L inline-four was rebuilt by Curtis Farley Engines. The 4-speed Hewland transaxle was also refurbished and comes with two extra gear sets. Electrical, safety equipment, suspension, and brake system work is outlined below. Since completion, the seller has only added about 20 miles during a single shakedown session with the SVRA. This Lola is now being offered on a bill of sale in Fort Worth, Texas with spare wheels and set-up documentation. New body panels by TW Mouldings in England were sourced for the restoration, and a repaint in red was commissioned from a local shop. The outer tub skins were also replaced and the rear subframe was media blasted and repainted in correct Lola gray. New Lucas brake lights and rain lights were installed as part of a complete rewiring. This Lola was reportedly imported by Carl Haas in 1978 and soon acquired by Rick Galles, owner of the successful Galles Racing Indy car team. Galles is said to have raced the car in 1979 and 1980 in the Sports Car Club of America runoffs at Road America. After passing through two other owners, the car was retired in 1983. The seller purchased the car in April 2016 and commissioned the restoration, with expenses reportedly topping $50k. Since then, this T492 has only had a shake-down outing at a Sportscar Vintage Racing Association event in New Orleans in 2016. The interior received a new instrument panel featuring a new RaceTech electrical tachometer. Original switches were retained where possible, but all wiring was replaced throughout the car. An OMP harness is installed and the Momo 3-spoke steering wheel is fitted on a quick-release hub. The 2.0L inline-four was rebuilt by Curtis Farley Engines with new rods and forged pistons. A dynamometer reading in the gallery shows 159.7 horsepower. A custom stainless-steel exhaust header was built to connect to a SuperTrapp muffler. The radiators were recored, the water pipes were nickel-plated, and new Samco coolant hoses were installed. A new Susa oil cooler was fitted and connected to a new oil pump. The fuel cell was rebuilt by ATL Fuel Cells and received new fuel lines, fittings, and a new pump. The 4-speed Hewland transaxle was disassembled and the case was media blasted and painted. New seals and CV boots were installed along with a new Titan 7.25” clutch. The seller states that two additional gear sets are included in the sale. The entire suspension was disassembled, stripped, polished, and nickel plated. New parts include Aurora tie-rod ends, radius rods, and spherical bearings in the upper and lower A-arms. The wheel bearings were replaced and new inner hubs were installed in the rear uprights. The braking system was overhauled with new discs, master cylinders, and steel braided lines with Aeroquip fittings. Spares include six Revolution wheels, original factory diagrams, and a notebook with vehicle info and set-up documentation.
