1982 Mercedes-Benz W460 Geländewagen

This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 240GD Wolf left the Graz, Austria, factory in April 1982 reportedly for use by the Italian military and was later imported to the US under previous ownership. Along with conversion from a manual to a four-speed automatic transmission, the factory engine was replaced by a 3.0-liter OM603 turbodiesel inline-six prior to the seller’s acquisition in 2020. Features include a long-wheelbase chassis, 16″ steel wheels, a canvas soft top, a front brush guard, front and rear locking differentials, power steering, a heater, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt stereo. This Wolf is now offered with spare parts and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name listing it as a 1985 model. The long-wheelbase three-door body is finished in matte green with black trim and features a front brush guard, a green soft top, a tailgate-mounted spare tire, rear mud flaps, and front and rear tow hooks. The canvas top shows evidence of repairs, and weathering of the paint on the doors, hood, and trim can be seen in photos presented in the gallery below. Matte-green-finished 16″ wheels with black Mercedes-Benz center caps are wrapped in 235/85 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The cabin features green vinyl upholstery contrasted with a black dashboard, door panels, all-weather mats, and floor coverings. Amenities include a heater and a Blaupunkt stereo that is said to be wired to an unswitched battery source. A fire extinguisher is secured under the front passenger seat. Inward-facing and belted folding rear jump seats are fitted. A black two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and ancillary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 53k miles, approximately 800 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The seller notes intermittent operation of the fuel gauge. Power is provided by a retrofitted 3.0-liter OM603 turbodiesel inline-six. Work performed under current ownership in March 2021 included replacement of the fuel hoses and the fuel filter as well as an oil change. Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a retrofitted Mercedes-Benz four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and locking front and rear differentials. Spare parts included in the sale consist of oil and fuel filters and canvas top tie-downs.
