This 1983 March 83C wears chassis number 83C–07 and is said to have been driven by Mike Mosley for Kraco Racing in the 1983 Indianapolis 500. Mosley achieved an average qualifying speed of over 205 mph and earned a second-place start in the race, but was classified 13th due to a collision on lap 169. The car was refurbished in the early 2000s and was purchased by the seller in 2017. Subsequent work included fitting a replacement fuel cell and tires, setting up for methanol fuel, and servicing the fuel-injection system. The fiberglass bodywork is finished in a yellow and blue #18 Kraco livery, and power comes from a turbocharged 2.65-liter Cosworth DFX V8 mated to a Hewland five-speed manual gearbox. Features include four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ center-lock wheels, a plexiglass windscreen, road racing wings, a fixed aluminum seat, and a Personal steering wheel on a quick-release hub. The car has not been run using its replacement fuel cell, and maintenance and track prep are recommended by the seller prior to use. This March 83C is now offered in Watson, Indiana, with a Gerhardt starter and a bill of sale. The 83C features fiberglass and carbon-fiber composite panels over a honeycomb aluminum monocoque chassis with a molded composite upper section. This example was refinished with a #18 Kraco Racing 1983 Indianapolis 500 livery under previous ownership and features road racing wings, side-view mirrors, a plexiglass windscreen, and a roll hoop. The 15″ center-lock wheels wear Goodyear slicks that were installed under the seller’s ownership. The 83C features a 111″ wheelbase and a fully independent double-wishbone suspension with inboard rear coilovers. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at all four corners. The cockpit features an aluminum seat with an older harness. The car is fitted with a fire-suppression system that will require service. The Personal steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub ahead of a 12,600-rpm tachometer and gauges for water temperature, oil temperature, and manifold pressure. The car is not fitted with an odometer, and total mileage is unknown. USAC and CART decals are affixed to the side of the cockpit. The turbocharged 2.6-liter Cosworth DFX V8 features a mechanical fuel injection system that was serviced under the seller’s ownership and set up for methanol fuel. The engine was recently run on methanol from an external fuel tank and was subsequently pickled with a combination of gasoline and Marvel Mystery Oil. The car has not been run using its replacement fuel cell, and maintenance is recommended by the seller prior to use. A Gerhardt starter is included in the sale and can be seen in the gallery. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a Hewand five-speed manual gearbox. The chassis plate listing the car as 83C–07 can be seen above.
