Make: Nissan

This 1984 Nissan 300ZX was originally prepared for SSA Class events in SCCA competitions by Newman/Sharp Racing and campaigned by actor Tom Cruise. The car was acquired in 2004 by the current owner, who commissioned a refurbishment in 2006 that included a bare-metal repaint with a period-style red and blue #70 livery. Power is from a 3.0-liter V6 reportedly modified with Jim Wolf Technologies camshafts, MSA headers and throttle body, and HKS exhaust and ignition system. Additional equipment includes a five-speed manual transmission, Tokico springs and shocks, red and black vinyl bucket seats, a roll cage, stainless-steel brake lines, and pop-up headlights. This Z31 is being offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with historical photos and documentation, a clean Carfax report, and a New Hampshire title. The car is said to have been kept in a scrapyard for several years prior to its acquisition by the current owner, and a bare-metal repaint was subsequently carried out in 2006. It is finished in white and wears a replica of the red and blue Canon/Planters #70 livery as campaigned by Cruise in the mid-1980s. Exterior features include a hood scoop, rear spoiler, pop-up headlights, and body-color side mirrors. An area of corrosion on the front driver-side rocker panel is noted by the seller. The 15” alloy wheels are mounted with 205/65 Road King Grenadier SE tires. Braking is through four-wheel discs with stainless-steel lines. The seller notes that the car was fitted with Nismo sway bars, MSA suspension bushings, and Tokico springs and shocks during the refurbishment. The cabin houses red and black vinyl 3A Racing bucket seats with Stroud multi-point harnesses. Black carpets line the floors, and additional equipment includes a padded roll cage, an AM/FM cassette stereo, black vinyl door panels, and an extended brake pedal. A two-spoke steering wheel frames a 145-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. Displays in the center stack monitor oil pressure and voltage. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 5k miles, around 800 of which have been added during current ownership. The 3.0-liter VG30E V6 sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Work during the refurbishment is said to have included the installation of a Jim Wolf Technologies ECU and camshafts, an HKS ignition system and stainless-steel exhaust, and an MSA throttle body, headers, and a lightweight flywheel and clutch. The seller notes a fluctuating idle. Additional underbody photos are provided in the gallery below. Historical photos and newspaper clippings accompany the vehicle. Note that the pictured pitstop lollipop shown in the gallery is not included in the sale. Additional photos taken during various stages of the refurbishment are provided in the gallery. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and displays history in New Hampshire and Vermont from the first entry in 2009. The New Hampshire title is a duplicate and lists “Antique Vehicle” under the brands section.
