This 1985 AM General M998 HMMWV was originally designed for use by the US military and was acquired by the seller in 2021 after being decommissioned. It subsequently underwent a multi-year build process completed by Cobra Tek of Spanish Fork, Utah, in 2023. Work involved installing a Predator folding brush guard, a roll cage, and half doors as well as repainting the body in metallic gray. Corbeau seating for six was also added along with a MOMO steering wheel, Speedhut Instrumentation, a Restomod Air air conditioning system, and a rearview camera system. Power comes from a 6.2-liter diesel V8 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials. Further modifications include LED lighting, a 2″ body lift, and 20″ wheels with 40″ tires. This M998 is now offered with a removable aluminum hardtop, soft top, and side windows as well as build photos and records and a Pennsylvania title in the name of the seller’s business. The M998 High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle went into production for military use in 1984. This example was decommissioned and repainted in its current shade of metallic gray and fitted with matching half doors as part of the aforementioned refurbishment completed in March 2023. Equipment includes a Predator fold-down brush guard, heavy-duty hinges, and a replacement DOT windshield as well as LED headlights, taillights, side marker lights, and auxiliary light bars. A custom-fabricated aluminum hardtop, a soft top, and side windows are included in the sale. Black 20″ Rockstar wheels are wrapped in 40×15.5″ Toyo Open Country M/T tires. The truck is equipped with independent front and rear suspension, and a 2″ body lift was added as part of the build. Stopping power is provided by inboard-mounted disc brakes at each corner. The four Corbeau bucket seats and center-mounted rear bench are trimmed in black leather with contrasting stitching and diamond-pattern inserts. A custom steel roll cage has been added, and the floors have been coated in bedliner material. Additional equipment includes a Restomod Air air conditioning system, a rearview camera system, and a keyed ignition. The three-spoke MOMO steering wheel fronts Speedhut instrumentation include a GPS-enabled 100-mph speedometer as well as supplementary gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage. The digital odometer shows 600 miles, and total chassis mileage is unknown. The naturally aspirated 6.2-liter diesel V8 was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The truck is fitted with a 24-volt battery system, and the fluids were replaced at the time of the refurbishment. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 3L80E three-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials. The replacement data plate indicates that the truck was first delivered in July 1985. Photos taken at various stages of the refurbishment can be viewed in the gallery along with build records.
