This 1987 Nissan 300ZX was originally campaigned by George Alderman in IMSA’s 3.0-liter GTU class and underwent a bare-tub restoration between 2016 and 2019 by Racecraft of Woodinville, Washington. The car features a fiberglass body finished in yellow over a tub and a steel tube frame. Power is from a naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter VG30E V6 mated with a four-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential, and equipment includes a rear spoiler, individual throttle bodies, a fuel cell, dry-sump lubrication, fire suppression system, fixed-back bucket seat with Schroth harnesses, and Panasport wheels with Goodyear slicks. This Z31 race car was raced by Jim Froula at the 2021 and 2022 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and is now being offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Portland, Oregon with photos and documentation from the refurbishment, a SOVREN logbook, and a bill of sale. Previously finished in white, the fiberglass body panels were removed from the tub and steel tube frame during the refurbishment and repainted their current shade of yellow with period-style IMSA livery graphics. Features include 300ZX taillights, a rear spoiler, Lexan windows, and exhaust pipes exiting ahead of the passenger-side rear wheel. The staggered-width Panasport multipiece wheels are mounted with Goodyear slicks. Braking is through four-wheel discs with Wilwood front and JFZ rear calipers with cross-drilled rotors, and the car rides on Penske adjustable coilovers that have been rebuilt by J&J Racing. The cockpit houses a single-piece fixed bucket seat with Schroth six-point harnesses. Features include a Hurst shifter, an integrated roll cage, a window net, and a fire suppression system. A microsuede-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel with a quick-release sits ahead of Stewart Warner instrumentation that includes an 8k-rpm tachometer and auxiliary displays. The replacement naturally-aspirated 3.0-liter VG30E V6 was installed during the refurbishment and is equipped with Jenvey Dynamics individual throttle bodies, a fuel cell, and dry-sump lubrication. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The results of a dyno run shown in the gallery display results of 253 horsepower and 231 lb-ft of torque. A number of photos taken during various stages of the refurbishment are provided in the gallery below, along with a handful of images of the car at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and photos of it racing in period.
