This 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 is #211 of 502 Evolution II models built and was delivered new in Switzerland, where it is said to have remained with three owners before being recently acquired by the selling dealer. The car now shows 95k kilometers (~59k miles) and is powered by a 2.5-liter Cosworth inline-four paired with a dogleg five-speed manual transmission. The exterior is finished in Blue-Black Metallic over Anthracite leather, and factory equipment includes the AMG Power Pack, a limited-slip differential, an adjustable suspension, 17” wheels, an electric sunroof, air conditioning, and heated front seats. This W201 EVO II is now offered at no reserve in Limmen, Netherlands, with a stamped service booklet, factory literature, and Swiss registration paperwork. Developed as a successor to the Evolution, the Evolution II was equipped with an upgraded aerodynamic package including more aggressive fender flares, a rear window spoiler, and an adjustable rear wing. Due to Swiss safety regulations, this example was delivered new with a smaller Evolution-style wing and has since been updated with the standard EVO II unit. In order to satisfy the DTM’s homologation requirements, just over 500 examples of the EVO II were produced, and all but the final two were finished in Blue-Black Metallic (199). The selling dealer notes that the hood has been refinished, and close-up photos of the trim and lenses can be viewed in the gallery. Factory 17″ six-spoke wheels wear Yokohama Advan tires, and the EVO II featured a lower ride height, wider track, and larger brakes than the standard 2.5-16. The adjustable self-leveling suspension was overhauled in June 2018, at which time the hydraulic accumulators and rear struts were replaced. The cabin is upholstered in Anthracite leather with matching carpets and a zebrawood gearshift surround. Amenities include heated power-adjustable Recaro front seats, an electric sunroof, air conditioning, and rear speakers. A serialized badge on the shift knob displays the dogleg shift pattern and marks the car as the 211th built. The factory radio has been removed. Instrumentation consists of a 260-km/h speedometer, a 9k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, fuel economy, oil temperature, and voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 95k kilometers (~59k miles). The EVO II’s 2.5-liter DOHC Cosworth inline-four featured a shorter stroke and larger bore than the standard 2.5-16 engine resulting in a higher rev limit and a factory-rated output of 232 horsepower. The Evolution’s optional AMG PowerPack was standard equipment on the EVO II and included upgraded camshafts, a larger throttle body, engine management adjustments, and intake and exhaust changes. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag dogleg five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional underside photos can be viewed in the gallery. The included service booklet features stamps beginning in 1991 and continuing through November 2015. Photos of individual pages, as well as Swiss registration documents, can be viewed in the gallery. The selling dealer notes that VAT must be paid should the car be sold to a private individual within the EU. A walk-around video featuring start-up footage is provided above, and a clip of the sunroof operation can be viewed below.
