1992 Mazda NA MX-5 Miata

This 1992 Mazda MX-5 Miata was converted for racing in 2016 and subsequently campaigned in SCCA, SOVERN, SVRA, CCSC, and NHA club events. The modified body is finished in purple and silver over a race-prepped cabin, and power is provided by a 331ci Ford V8 paired with a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a Torsen rear differential, 15″ Jongbloed Racing wheels, an adjustable rear wing, a roll cage, a Ford Thunderbird independent rear suspension, Wilwood brakes, AFCO shocks, ElectroMotive engine management, a Kirkey racing seat with a Schroth harness, a Sparco steering wheel, and AutoMeter gauges. The engine was rebuilt in December 2020, and the camshaft and rocker arms were replaced in 2021. This MX-5 Miata race car is now offered on dealer consignment in Oregon with recent service records, log books, spare parts, a Carfax report, and a bill of sale. The car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in purple and silver following the installation of a partial tube frame. Equipment includes custom front and rear fenders, an adjustable APR Performance rear wing, a custom vented hood, and a carbon-fiber front splitter, trunk-lid spoiler, top boot, and canards. Tape is applied to the edge of the front splitter, and stone chips are present on the front fascia and lower fenders. The Carfax report notes that Oregon salvage and rebuilt titles were issued for the car in 2009 and 2010 and that the car was also declared a total loss in 2010. 15″ Jongbloed Racing wheels are wrapped in Hoosier racing slick tires sized 275/35 front and 295/35 rear. Equipment includes custom-valved AFCO shocks, 1,000-lb front and 700-lb rear springs, a 1986 Ford Thunderbird rear independent suspension, adjustable rear upper control arms, and a 1″ front sway bar. Braking is handled by six-piston front and four-piston rear Wilwood calipers and slotted rotors. The cockpit features a single Kirkey seat and a Schroth Racing five-point harness. Additional equipment includes a custom billet shifter, a Motorola radio transponder, a brake bias adjuster, an Accusump accumulator, and a center rear view mirror. A Sparco three-spoke steering wheel frames a custom dashboard housing an AutoMeter tachometer with an 8k-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel pressure, oil temperature, voltage, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and transmission fluid temperature. Neither a speedometer nor odometer are installed, and the true chassis mileage is unknown. The V8 engine was sourced from a Ford Explorer and stroked to 331ci in 2015. Components included Carillo connecting rods, Mahle pistons, Edlebrock aluminum cylinder heads, and a Ford Motorsports camshaft and lifters. Speedmaster individual throttle bodies, ElectroMotive engine management, custom valve covers, and an aluminum radiator have also been installed. The engine was rebuilt by Delta Park Machine Shop in December 2020, and the camshaft and rocker arms were replaced in 2021. The Tremec TRX five-speed manual transmission is equipped with an external cooler and a Torsen limited-slip differential is also fitted. A lightweight ACT flywheel, ACT clutch, and a custom exhaust system have also been added. SCCA and Vintage Motorsport log books are included in the sale, along with a collection of spare and used parts. Photos taken during the build process can be viewed in the gallery. The car campaigned originally in hillclimb events along with podium finishes at Portland International Raceway and Pacific Raceways with numerous P1 results, and SOVREN vintage events as recently as the 2021 Pacific Northwest Historics.
