This 2002 Gillet Vertigo is said to be the third of three chassis built by the Belgian manufacturer for competition in the Belcar Endurance Championship and later the FIA GT Championship, in which it helped the Belgian Racing Team earn the G2 class title in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The car reportedly received a refurbishment by Gillet founder Tony Gillet in 2019 that included a repaint in a yellow livery and overhauls of its Ellegi Motori-tuned 3.0-liter Alfa Romeo V6 and six-speed sequential transaxle. Featuring carbon-fiber monocoque construction, the car is equipped with electronic fuel injection, dry-sump lubrication, AP Racing ventilated disc brakes, pushrod front suspension, Öhlins adjustable coilovers, staggered-width 18” magnesium alloy wheels, a roll cage, a Sparco seat upholstered in red and black, and a Magneti Marelli digital dash. This Vertigo was purchased by its current owner four years ago and is now offered on dealer consignment in Malle, Belgium, with a scale model in its likeness and a bill of sale. Founded by Belgian racing driver Tony Gillet, Gembloux-based Gillet Automobiles introduced the first generation of the carbon-fiber-monocoque-based Vertigo coupe in 1992 and developed a racing version for competition in the Belcar series at the close of the decade. The Vertigo Steiff variant of the model was introduced in 2002 in road-going guise with design changes that were adapted for the racing counterpart, which forayed into FIA GT Championship competition in 2005. For its final FIA GT season in 2008, the model was further revised to compete with power from a Maserati V8 under the Vertigo.5 name. This example’s carbon-fiber bodywork was refinished during the 2019 refurbishment in a yellow GoldenPalace.com livery replicating that worn by the car during its first FIA G2 class victory in Zhuhai, China, in 2005. Features include butterfly doors, a front splitter, a dual-plane rear wing, NACA ducts on each flank, and body-color side mirrors. Belgian drivers listed atop the doors include Bas Leinders, Vanina Ickx, Renaud Kuppens, Jerome d’Ambrosio, and Sylvie Delcour. Tony Gillet’s signature is also present on the roof. Speedline magnesium alloy wheels are secured by hexagonal nuts and are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport slicks measuring 24/64-18 up front and 27/65-18 at the rear. Stopping is handled by AP Racing disc brakes with four-piston calipers and slotted and ventilated rotors at each corner. Four-wheel independent suspension incorporates double wishbones, adjustable anti-roll bars, and Öhlins adjustable coilovers, the latter of which are arranged in a pushrod orientation up front. The cockpit houses a single Sparco Rev racing seat upholstered in red and black cloth and equipped with a Schroth four-point harness. Additional features include an AMP Belgium roll cage, a fire-suppression system, and exposed carbon-fiber interior surfaces. The Sparco steering wheel sits ahead of a Magnetti Marelli digital display and a digital gear indicator, while switchgear and fuses are situated to the driver’s right. According to the selling dealer, the car does not have an odometer, and approximately 50 miles are said to have been added under current ownership. The Vertigo racing model was originally campaigned with a 3.0-liter Alfa Romeo V6 that was tuned by Ellegi Motori in Italy before the platform shifted to use of a 4.2-liter Maserati V8 in 2008. This example has been returned to Alfa Romeo V6 specification, and its engine is said to have been overhauled during the 2019 refurbishment. Features include dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, dry-sump lubrication, electronic fuel injection with EFI Technology engine management, a carbon-fiber inake duct, and three-into-one exhaust headers. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox that was also reportedly overhauled during the refurbishment. The metal plate embedded in the carbon fiber lists VIN number YA9VA2S00Y0169021, as does a replacement Vertigo.5 VIN sticker. Additional images of the car during its 2005 FIA GT campaign can be seen in the photo gallery below, as can a trophy from the car’s class victory at the 2005 Zhuhai FIA GT race. The lead image atop the listing shows the car during its competition career in 2005. The car does not have a title as it is a race car intended for track use. It is being sold on a bill of sale.
