Make: Auburn
Model: Auburn 851/852

This Auburn 851 started life as a sedan and has been re-bodied as a boattail speedster. It retains a steel grille shell and hood, and its fiberglass replica body was built in the 1950s by Glenn Pray, who went on to form the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Co. of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The car was acquired by the seller as an unfinished project in 2009 and was refurbished with the assistance of the ACD Club over the next four years, utilizing parts sourced from ACD Club members. Power comes from a naturally-aspirated 275ci Lycoming straight-eight, which was rebuilt during the refurbishment and is paired with a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed rear end. This Auburn has been assigned a VIN by the transportation authority of Alberta, Canada, and is now offered with service records and transferrable Alberta registration. The fiberglass body was created using molds pulled from a real 851 Speedster by Glenn Pray in the 1950s. It was acquired by the seller in 2009 from an ACD Club member, along with a 1935 Auburn sedan chassis. The car retains a factory steel grille shell and hood, while factory bumpers, lighting, and brightwork were sourced from ACD members. Additional features include a removable wood luggage rack, orange pinstriping, and a storage area behind the seats that is accessed by a door located just forward of the passenger-side rear fender. Orange-painted wire wheels feature chrome trim rings and Auburn center caps, and are mounted with wide whitewall tires. The tan soft top features a stock glass rear window and can be seen raised and lowered in the gallery below. Removable side curtains are stored inside the cabin, secured to the inner door panels by straps. The bench seat is upholstered in light brown, and the door panels and kick panels are trimmed in tan. Rubber floor mats cover tan carpeting in the footwells. The factory dash fascia is fitted with two individual Auburn-branded instrument panels that are patterned with a horizontal diamond design. The three-spoke steering wheel features a hub-mounted control for the two-speed rear end. The left-side dash panel contains a 100-mph speedometer and 5k-rpm tachometer, as well as a combination gauge for monitoring oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and amperage. Approximately 1,500 miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, and total chassis mileage is unknown. The naturally-aspirated 275ci Lycoming straight-eight was rebuilt during the build and features a period Delco air cleaner, Pertronix Flame Thrower ignition coil, and a period Startix electric self-starter unit. A video of the engine running can be seen here. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission and a two-speed Columbia rear end, which can be seen in operation here. Additional underside photos can be seen in the gallery along with an image of the Alberta assigned VIN plate. Walk-around and drive-by videos are viewable below. https://youtu.be/2Vo5Qj3-PWk
