This race car was reportedly built over a 14-year period as a tribute to the Hudson Special raced by Al Miller and mechanic Howard Creith at the 1932 Indianapolis 500. It was purchased by the seller’s brother in 2019. The car features boattail-style bodywork finished in blue with a silver livery over tan upholstery, and power comes from a 254ci Hudson straight-eight paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a modified Hudson front suspension, a Ford 9″ rear end, quad Weber carburetors, an Isky camshaft, a dry-sump oiling system with a cooler, an alternator, an aluminum radiator, an eight-into-one exhaust system, 16″ red-painted wire wheels, four-wheel drum brakes, an exterior brake handle, a quick-release steering wheel, and RJS Racing Equipment harnesses. This Hudson Special is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner’s estate at no reserve in Rockville, Maryland, on a bill of sale. The recreation boattail-style bodywork is finished in blue with silver Hudson Special cowl logos and a #19 livery on the hood and rear body panels. A wire mesh grille is fitted along with a plexiglass windscreen and a chrome flip-up fuel filler cap. The red-painted wire wheels feature chrome two-eared knock-off hubs and are mounted with 6.50-16 Firestone bias-ply tires. The car is said to ride on a custom frame with modified Hudson front suspension components, while a live rear axle with a Ford 9″ rear end is mounted out back. Red-painted leaf springs are fitted at all four corners. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel hydraulic drums. The cockpit features a bench trimmed in tan upholstery with stainless steel snaps, and tan vinyl extends to the center console and kick panels. Blue RJS Racing Equipment harnesses are fitted for the driver and passenger. The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub ahead of a dash panel housing a voltmeter, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and Stewart-Warner gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel pressure. An external brake handle is fitted to the left of the cockpit. No odometer is fitted, and total mileage is unknown. The 254ci Hudson straight-eight features a polished aluminum Power Dome cylinder head along with quad single-barrel Weber carburetors, an Isky camshaft, and a dry-sump oiling system with a cooler. An alternator is also fitted along with an aluminum radiator and an electric cooling fan. An oil leak is noted by the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission. The car is not equipped with a serial number according to the seller. It is not intended for street use and is being sold on a bill of sale.
