MG Magnette

This MG roadster is said to have been built by Tom Dark Engineering in the early 1990s using a 1936 MG NA Magnette Airline Coupe chassis. It was imported into the US under previous ownership and acquired by the seller as a non-running project circa 2019. A supercharged replacement 1,271cc inline-six was subsequently installed and the carburetor, fuel and cooling systems, and four-speed pre-selector gearbox were overhauled. The aluminum race-style bodywork is finished in green and the right-hand-drive cockpit is trimmed to match. Additional equipment includes 18″ wire-spoke wheels, four-wheel drum brakes, a side-exit exhaust system, a fold-down windshield, Brooklands-style windscreens, and Jaeger instrumentation. This custom Magnette roadster is now offered with a Pennsylvania title. The custom-fabricated aluminum bodywork is finished in dark green. Exterior details include a badge bar, a leather hood strap, headlight guards, a fold-down windshield, a pair of Brooklands-style windscreens, a right mirror, and a side-exit exhaust system. Body-color 18″ wire wheels are secured with two-eared knockoffs and mounted with 5.50″ Blockley tires, while a matching spare is secured at the rear. The car is equipped with a solid rear axle, friction shocks up front, and leaf springs all around. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The right-hand-drive cockpit houses a pair of bucket seats trimmed in green leather accompanied by color-coordinated door caps and carpets. The black dashboard houses a glovebox and is topped with a rearview mirror. The four-spoke steering wheel fronts Jaeger instrumentation that includes a reverse-sweep 8k-rpm tachometer and six auxiliary gauges. The car is not equipped with a speedometer or an odometer. The supercharged 1,271cc inline-six was rebuilt under previous ownership before being installed in August 2023. It is equipped with a six-into-one exhaust system and a polished valve cover.
