This 3.0L flat-twelve crankcase was produced for use in an Alfa Romeo Tipo 33TT12 and carries serial number AR 11512 002. It was acquired by the seller in 1985 with the purchase of three Tipo 33 race cars and is assembled with a pair of 24-valve cylinder heads. Additional equipment includes valve covers, camshaft housings, intake manifolds, an oil sump, and a front cover. The engine is not equipped with any internal components, though an Alfa-branded wooden shipping crate is included in the sale. This Alfa flat-twelve is now offered at no reserve in West Vancouver, Canada. The Tipo 33 sports racer was developed in the early 1960s by Alfa Romeo’s racing division, Autodelta, and was initially equipped with a 2.0-liter V8. In 1973 a new variant, the Tipo 33TT12, was introduced with a 3.0-liter flat-twelve designed by Carlo Chito. The larger power plant featured dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. It developed approximately 500 horsepower at 11,500 rpm. This crankcase is said to be an early-production 33TT12 example and was reportedly used prior to the seller’s acquisition more than three decades ago. It is accompanied by a pair of cylinder heads, camshaft housings, Alfa Romeo-branded valve covers, intake manifolds, a finned oil sump, and a front cover with water outlets. The parts have been assembled for display purposes, though no internal components are included in the sale.
