This 1958 Volkswagen Type 2 is a Deluxe Samba model that underwent refurbishment between 2015 and 2020 and was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. Work reportedly included disassembling the bus and refinishing the body in red and brown, reupholstering the interior in brown vinyl, performing a 12-volt conversion, and installing a replacement 2.0L air-cooled flat-four. Equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, gear reduction boxes, 15″ steel wheels, drum brakes, a sliding fabric sunroof, safari-style windshields, eight skylight windows, six pop-out side windows, and three rows of bench seats. This 23-window Samba is now offered by the selling dealer with a Volkswagen delivery status certificate and a clean California title. The 23-window body was factory-finished in Sealing Wax Red (L53) and Chestnut Brown (L73) and was repainted as part of the refurbishment. Exterior details include a sliding fabric sunroof, safari-style windshields, eight skylight windows, six pop-out side windows, dual side mirrors, and deluxe trim. Steel 15″ wheels wear chrome trim rings and VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 165-series Coker Classic tires. The bus rides on Bilstein dampers, and braking is handled by drums on all four wheels. The master cylinder was replaced and the brakes were adjusted in January 2024. The front cabin houses a bench seat trimmed in light brown vinyl upholstery with dark brown piping along with color-coordinated door and side panels. A black rubber floor mat lines the footwells, and additional appointments include sliding front windows, a parcel shelf, and an overhead ventilation unit. The fuel reserve is missing, the clock and radio are inoperative, and there is no heat. The two-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg-crest hon button and fronts a 70-mph speedometer that was rebuilt in February 2024. The five-digit odometer was reset at that time and now shows 7 miles. True mileage is unknown. Dual swing-out doors on the right provide access to two rows of bench seating trimmed in matching upholstery. Jail bars are fitted in the rear cargo area. The replacement air-cooled flat-four is said to have been modified to displace 2.0L and is equipped with dual carburetors, an EMPI distributor, a degree pulley, a full-flow oiling system, an extended capacity oil sump, and a sidewinder-style exhaust system with J-tubes. The electrical system has been converted to 12-volt. An oil change and valve adjustment were performed and the battery was replaced in preparation for the sale. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle equipped with gear-reduction boxes. The Volkswagen Delivery Status certificate describes the bus as a Microbus De Luxe “Samba” and lists factory colors, equipment, VIN 324116, and manufacturing date of January 29, 1958 The chassis plate and corresponding stamping below it are partially illegible.
