This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 was converted to a camper by EZ Camper of America in Littlerock, California, and was acquired by the seller in 2007 from the reported family of the original owner. The bus is finished in Pearl White over gray and patterned vinyl and is powered by a 1.5-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes four-wheel drum brakes, white-powdercoated 14″ steel wheels and bumpers, and jalousie windows as well as a cabin heater, a push-button AM radio, folding rear bench seats, a sink, a Mobilaire ice chest, storage compartments, privacy curtains, and an awning. The bus was featured in the February 2013 issue of Hot VWs magazine. This EZ Camper is offered with a two copies of Hot VWs magazine, period maps, a hand-written camping checklist, park tickets and campsite receipts, service records, a car cover, a rear hatch canopy, magnetic external front privacy curtains, display items, spare parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name. The bus is finished in Pearl White (L87). Work under current ownership included powdercoating the front VW emblem and bumpers in white, disassembling and polishing the jalousie windows, and polishing and waxing the paint. Exterior details include a split windshield, dual side mirrors, and “Turista” stickers on the front and rear glass that are remnants from a reported trip to Mexico in 1969. Close-up photos presented in the gallery depict oxidation on the drip rails, dings, and blemishes in the paint. White-powdercoated 14″ steel wheels with refinished body-color hubcaps are wrapped in 185/70 Uniroyal Tiger Paw whitewall tires. A spare is stowed behind the front seats. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The forward cabin houses bucket seats trimmed in gray vinyl. Appointments include a black rubber floor mat, a passenger grab handle, crank windows, and a push-button AM radio. The right-side barn doors open to reveal a rear cabin with folding bench seats trimmed in patterned gold vinyl as well as tile flooring and wood paneling on the roof, door panels, and sides. Additional equipment includes a Mobilaire ice chest, a sink, fold-away tables, and replacement privacy curtains sewn by the seller’s late mother. A removable metal frame supports the factory awning canopy and side panels, and an additional shade canopy The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a VDO 80-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer is said to have rolled over under current ownership and now shows 6,300 miles, approximately 6,600 of which were added by the seller. The 1.5-liter flat-four was reportedly rebuilt under previous ownership as part of a recall and features a single downdraft carburetor and a 6-volt electrical system. The intake manifold and cooling tins were refinished under current ownership and factory stickers and labels were reapplied. An automatic fire suppression system is installed in the engine bay. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The flywheel was resurfaced and the clutch was replaced in 2010. Two copies of the February 2013 edition of Hot VWs magazine that feature the EZ Camper are included in the sale. Filed under: vw
