This 1959 Volkswagen Type 2 is a 23-window Deluxe Samba that was delivered new in Hamburg, Germany and was located in the United States as early as the mid-1960s. The bus was refurbished before the selling dealer acquired it in 2022, and it is equipped with a 1.2-liter flat-four and a four-speed manual transaxle, both of which have been rebuilt. The body was refinished in red and white, the beige upholstery was redone, and the brakes, suspension, and interior also were overhauled during the refurbishment. Features include a tan fabric sunroof, chrome hubcaps, semaphore turn indicators, and three rows of seats. This Samba Microbus is now offered with a Volkswagen Classic Parts Certificate, a 1965 New York registration document, refurbishment photos, and a clean Maryland title. The bus features 23 windows and is said to have been disassembled before being refinished in Sealing Wax Red with a white roof and nose. Metalwork and body repairs were completed at that time, including replacement of the nose panel. The bus is equipped with semaphore turn indicators, white-painted bumpers, chrome beltline trim, and a tan fabric sunroof. White-finished steel wheels wear chrome-finished hubcaps and 6.40-15 tires. The chassis is said to have been refurbished with replacement suspension, brakes, and tires. The interior has been redone, and the seating surfaces are trimmed in two-tone beige, with color-coordinated trim and door panels. Black liners cover the floors, and the dash features an ashtray, a storage shelf, and a clock. A two-spoke steering wheel with the Wolfsburg crest sits ahead of a VDO 70-mph speedometer. The five-digit odometer shows 9,700 miles, approximately 10 of which have been added by the selling dealer. True mileage is unknown. The front bench seat is complemented by a 60/40 split-folding middle row that grants access to a third row of seating. The 1.2-liter flat-four and the four-speed manual transaxle are said to have been rebuilt during the refurbishment. The fluids have been changed, and the fuel tank and battery also have been replaced. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below. The Volkswagen Classic Parts Certificate indicates the factory color scheme and configuration as well as the build date and delivery destination. Images provided toward the end of the gallery show the vehicle before and during the refurbishment. Filed under: vw
