Make: Volkswagen
Model: Volkswagen Bus
Year: 1964

This 1964 Volkswagen Bus is said to have been overhauled by Smitty’s Auto Body of Meadow Vista, California from 2013 to 2016. The exterior was refinished in two-tone white and turquoise, the green interior was refreshed, and a 2,007cc flat-four was installed along with a regeared four-speed manual transaxle. The 21-window bus is equipped with a Westfalia roof rack, a sliding cloth sunroof, steel wheels with hubcaps, and three rows of seating. The current owner acquired the car in 2018. This Type 2 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a radio, a matching luggage set, a surfboard, refurbishment photos, and a clean Texas title. The bus was delivered new in tone-tone Blue White over Turquoise and is said to have been refinished by Smitty’s Auto Body under previous ownership; work was completed by June 2016. Of the 21 windows, the six side windows pop out, and the bus is also equipped with a fabric sunroof. The wooden roof rack bears a Westfalia tag, and the pictured surfboard is included with the bus. Blemishes to the lower areas of the bumperettes are noted by the seller. White-finished steel wheels wear VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with Firestone whitewall tires. The bus received a Como Green interior color scheme from the factory, and the cabin was overhauled by West Coast Classic Restoration of Fullerton, California under previous ownership. The radio pictured above on the seat is a removable Blaupunkt Derby “picnic” piece. An early-style “barndoor” steering wheel frames an 80-mph VDO speedometer and a fuel-level gauge, while a clock is located on the opposite side of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added over the past three years. True mileage is unknown. The right-side cargo doors open to expose two additional rows of seats. The 2,007cc flat-four is said to have been installed under previous ownership, and the four-speed manual transaxle has been regeared to favor highway driving. The seller notes that the engine-cover hinge does not stay upright due to a missing spring. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below. The M-code plate bears serial number 1152441, which matches the stamping in the engine bay as well as the Fahrgestellnummer (chassis number) shown on the stamped identification plate that is also affixed to the bus. The plate decodes as follows: 427 – North American export package w/1.5-liter engine 025 – US-spec bumpers and six pop-out windows; mounting for safety belts 114 – Six pop-out side windows 195 – Adjustable bench seat/backrest UF – US-market vehicle delivered to San Francisco, California 2413 – Microbus Deluxe with right-side cargo doors, eight seats, left-hand drive 421781 – Blue White upper exterior paint w/ Turquoise lower paint; Como Green interior color 1152441 – Vehicle chassis number A matching luggage set as well as the aforementioned radio and surfboard will accompany the bus. Numerous photos toward the end of the gallery show the vehicle during the refurbishment. Filed under: vw
