This 1964 Volkswagen Type 2 panel van was acquired by the seller in 2020 as a nonrunning project with no engine, transaxle, or brakes. The bus was subsequently refurbished with work that included fitting an air-cooled 1,641cc flat-four and a four-speed manual transaxle with gear reduction boxes, converting the front brakes to disc, refreshing the suspension, reupholstering the interior, performing rust repairs, and painting the body in Mouse Grey and Pearl White. Additional details include 14″ steel wheels, Atlas Portawall inserts, a low-profile roof rack, deluxe beltline trim, safari-style windows, a flat-folding rear bench, a sink, a Coleman convertible cooler, and a fold-out table. This Type 2 panel van is now offered with refurbishment records and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name. The bus was disassembled, the floors were replaced, rust repairs were performed, and the body was repainted Mouse Grey (L325) and Pearl White (L87) as part of the refurbishment. Exterior details include deluxe beltline trim, dual side-view mirrors, a low-profile roof rack, and safari-style cargo glass and windshields. Images detailing the condition of the exterior are presented in the gallery below. The 14″ steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 205/70 Venezia Classic 787 tires that wear Atlas Portawall whitewall inserts. The bus rides on KYB Excel-G shock absorbers, and stopping power is provided by front disc and rear drum brakes. The front cabin houses a split-bench seat that has been retrimmed in Mesh Platinum vinyl upholstery sourced from TMI Products. Interior elements include a shifter extension, a parcel shelf, a chrome passenger grab handle, lap belts, and a wire basket with integrated cupholders. Kilmat sound-deadening material was installed on the interior ceiling, walls, doors, and the floor above the engine. The bus is also equipped with a backup camera, viewed through a removable tablet suction cupped to the front windshield. Dual swing-out side doors on the right provide access to the rear compartment, which has been outfitted with a rear bench seat that folds flat into a bed as well as a custom-built cabinet with a sink, a Coleman convertible cooler, and a fold-out table. The two-spoke steering wheel fronts an 80-mph speedometer and a fuel level gauge. The speedometer was rebuilt as part of the refurbishment, and the five-digit mechanical odometer currently shows 3,600 miles. True mileage is unknown. The replacement air-cooled flat-four has been fitted with 87mm pistons and cylinders for a displacement of 1,641cc. The engine utilizes a 12-volt electrical system with a Wolfsburg West wiring harness and is equipped with dual Weber 40 IDF carburetors, an electric fuel pump, a degree pulley, a 009-style distributor, a Bosch blue ignition coil, an EMPI oil breather, and a merged header exhaust system with heater boxes and a quiet pack muffler. The engine leaks oil. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt four-speed manual transaxle equipped with gear reduction boxes, reportedly sourced from Strictly Foreign of Grants Pass, Oregon in 2021. The underside has been sprayed with undercoating material. Filed under: vw
