This 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 is a 21-window Deluxe model that underwent a multi-year refurbishment between 2014 and 2016 and features a lowered ride height, an independent rear suspension conversion, and a 12-volt electrical system. Finished in Velvet Green and Blue White over Mesh Grey upholstery, the bus features a sliding fabric sunroof, eight skylight windows, safari-style windshields, and two pop-out side windows as well as deluxe beltline trim, jail bars, and a Kienzle clock. A replacement air-cooled 1.6L flat-four has been fitted and is mated to a four-speed manual transaxle that has reportedly been modified with a “Freeway Flyer” gearset. This Type 2 bus was acquired by the selling dealer in 2014 and is now offered with refurbishment records and an Oregon title. The bus was factory-finished in Velvet Green (L512) and Blue White (L289) and was repainted as part of the refurbishment. Exterior details include deluxe beltline and rocker panel trim, dual side mirrors, safari-style windshields, two pop-out side windows, eight skylight windows, and a sliding fabric sunroof. White-finished bumpers feature overriders, guard bars, and polished corner trim with black rubber strips. Exterior blemishes including a scratch and a paint chip are shown in the gallery below. EMPI Raider 15″ wheels are finished in Anthracite with polished lips and are mounted with 195/50 Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires. The ride height has been lowered and features an independent rear suspension conversion. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The front cabin features a split bench seat that is upholstered in Mesh Grey and Dark Grey vinyl joined by matching door panels and color-coordinated carpets. Appointments include sliding front windows, a Kienzle analog clock, and an overhead ventilation unit. Dual swing-out doors on the right side of the bus provide access to the rear compartment, which features two rows of bench seats trimmed in matching upholstery along with jail bars fitted in the rear cargo area. The bulkhead cover is missing. The two-spoke steering wheel features a Wolfsburg logo horn button and sits ahead of an 80-mph VDO speedometer and fuel-level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 25 miles, and true mileage is unknown. The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with a single downdraft carburetor, a 12-volt electrical system, and electronic ignition. An oil change was performed and the carburetor was replaced in January 2024. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle that has reportedly been modified with a “Freeway Flyer” gearset. A Vintage Speed stainless steel exhaust system with J-tubes has been fitted. The M-Plate has been relocated to the overhead ventilation unit. The seller is unable to locate additional chassis stamps.
