1965 Volkswagen Type 2 Sundial Camper Split-Window

This 1965 Volkswagen Type 2 is a Sundial Camper which was purchased by the seller in Colorado three years ago as a non-running project and relocated to Arizona. A subsequent refurbishment included a repaint in Velvet Green, interior refreshment, and installation of a rebuilt 1,600cc flat-four paired with a modified 4-speed manual gearbox. Other equipment consists of front disc brakes, retractable 3-point seat belts, a birchwood camper interior, and more. This Bus is offered with recent service records, a jack and spare tire, and a clean Arizona title in the seller’s name. The refurbishment commenced in November 2017 and completed in late 2018. The van was disassembled and media-blasted before replacement of a lower rear quarter panel, coating in epoxy primer, and repainting in Samtgrün (L512). New seals and gaskets were installed, and the five Jalousie side windows were refurbished. The seller reports that the bumpers and suspension components were powder coated along with the 15″ steel wheels, which wear chrome Volkswagen hubcaps and Thunderer Ranger R101 tires. Glass was polished throughout, though the seller notes remaining scratches. The forward cabin features new gray vinyl upholstery with white piping over replacement coconut and horsehair padding and powder coated seat frames. Retractable 3-point safety belts and billet door and dash pull handles were installed, as was sound deadening material throughout the cabin per the seller. The 5-digit odometer housed in the body-colored dashboard was reset during the refurbishment and currently shows 20 miles. Total mileage is unknown. The rear camper area features replacement flooring and birchwood on the side panels, seat supports, and fold-away table. Equipment includes a rear bench that folds into a bed, period-style curtains, and a large floor mat. A rebuilt 1,600cc dual-port flat-four was installed by the seller and is equipped with a rebuilt carburetor, new 12-volt wiring harness, and fresh battery. Shifting is through a 4-speed manual gearbox that was rebuilt with new bearings, gaskets, and taller gears for highway driving. The suspension was rebuilt and powder coated, disc brakes were added up front, and a dual-circuit brake master cylinder was installed. The pan and floor were epoxy-coated during the painting process.
