This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 is said to have been purchased new by a United States serviceman who was stationed in Germany and sent the vehicle to Westfalia to have a pop-up top and camper equipment installed. The bus was imported to Arizona in the late 1960s, and it was refinished in two-tone blue and white. The seller acquired the bus in 2015, and in 2019 a fuel-injected 2.1-liter flat-four was built and installed. Other work included sourcing replacement cabinets and refurbishing the rear area, and equipment includes a pop-up top, a pop-out front windshield, front bucket seats in gray, tan rear bench seats, a dining area, flip-up tables, a radio, steel wheels, and a front disc-brake conversion. This split-window Volkswagen is now offered with spare parts, service records, refurbishment photos, and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name. The bus was refinished in two-tone blue and white at some point under prior ownership and features white-finished bumpers, a pop-out windshield, and a pop-up roof section. The seller notes scratches, stone chips, and other blemishes in the finish as well as dry weatherstripping for the side windows. White 15″ wheels are mounted with 195/65 Goodyear Assurance all-season tires, and a set of chrome-finished hubcaps is included. Front disc brakes have been installed under current ownership, and the shocks have been replaced front and rear. The seller notes that the steering box requires adjustment. Under current ownership the front bucket seats were reupholstered in gray, the door panels were redone, and the lower passenger-side door hinge was welded. A two-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation that includes an 80-mph VDO speedometer, a fuel-level gauge, an aftermarket gauge pod in the center of the dashboard, and a clock mounted atop the dash. A push-button radio is also present. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, approximately 2,500 of which have been added by the seller. True mileage is unknown, and the seller notes that the passenger door should be adjusted. The rear area was refurbished under current ownership with replacement cabinets, at which point sound insulation was added. The refrigerator is currently used as storage, and features include rear bench seats, a folding dining table, folding side tables, a countertop, and plaid curtains. The water dispenser is inoperable. The rear bench folds flat to provide sleeping space, and the cushions are trimmed in tan upholstery. The fuel-injected flat-four was built and installed by GT Precision Imports of Massapequa, New York in 2019 for a total of $24,514. Equipment includes forged Mahle pistons, a Magnaspark ignition coil, a Tiger exhaust, and an oil cooler. The alternator and starter have been replaced, and the seller states that a valve adjustment will be required within the next 200 miles. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery below. The parts shown above will accompany the vehicle. Photos toward the end of the gallery show the rear area being refurbished and the engine being rebuilt. The vehicle does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its New York registration. Filed under: vw
