This 1970 Lamborghini 400 GT Espada Series II is described by the seller as “excellent.” He says, “The car is dialed and runs great.” He notes a recent clutch adjustment and other services (see below), plus a full detailing. The seller believes the Lambo was repainted, and it appears so in the photos.

Where other Italian exotic makers offered 2+2 coupes with minuscule rear seats, this 1970 Lamborghini Espada Series II was a true four-seater GT. Introduced at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, the Espada became the most prolific of the classic-era Lamborghinis, with 1,227 produced in three series through 1978. This 1970 model has the original design by Marcello Gandini, working at Bertone, fully intact. Later U.S. models had huge, ugly, mandated bumpers. The Espada also offered good luggage room, accessible through a glass rear hatch. The glass panel between the taillights aided rear visibility, a good idea later adopted by the Maserati Khamsin, Honda CRX, and, yes, even the Toyota Prius. Lamborghini’s 3.9-liter V12, designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, used six Weber two-barrel side-draft carburetors to clear the low hood line.

  • This 1970 Lamborghini Espada has its original 3.9-liter DOHC V12, the seller states.
  • A photo of the engine stamping documents this.
  • New, the V12 was rated at 350 horsepower.
  • The seller notes a recently replaced water pump and flushed cooling system.
  • The six carburetors were rebuilt and tuned, he says.
  • The transmission and differential fluids are fresh, he says.
  • The seller believes the car was repainted, and it appears so in the photos.
  • The interior appears in very good condition in the photos, with no blemishes seen.
  • Luxury in a 1970 Lamborghini included power windows and a cassette stereo.
  • The car has a Nardi wood-rim steering wheel.
  • The Espada rolls on its original factory 15-inch Campagnolo alloy wheels.
  • The Kumho Solus tires (205/70R15) show 2021 DOT date codes.
  • No extras are noted for this Lamborghini.
  • According to the seller, the Lamborghini has no mechanical needs.
  • Unique in its day, the Lamborghini Espada was a true four-seat GT.
  • The V12 received some recent services, including rebuilt carburetors.
  • The seller says the exotic coupe is “dialed in and runs great.”
  • The car was likely repainted.

The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean California title in the owner’s name. The seller is assisting the owner of the vehicle, with his approval, to get the vehicle listed online. This 1970 Lamborghini 400 GT Espada Series II is an early model, desirable for showing the Gandini design in its original, clean form. The car had recent services and is said to run strongly.
