This 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia was acquired by the seller in 2015 and was subsequently refurbished with work that included rebuilding the 2.1-liter flat-four, retrofitting a six-rib four-speed manual transaxle and a late-model Westfalia pop-top roof tent, modifying the suspension and brakes, refinishing the exterior in Mango Green and Pastel White and retrimming the interior in tan upholstery and Japanese maple. Equipment includes 15″ alloy wheels, heated front seats, a folding rear bench, air conditioning, a gas heater, a refrigerator, a sink, a two-burner stove, a solar roof panel, a removable cassette-style toilet, and a Bluetooth-capable stereo. The rig was featured in the November 2017 issue of Ultra VW and the October 2018 issue of VW Tech magazines. This Westfalia shows 61k miles and is offered with a 1966 ERKA folding trailer and British Columbia registration Rust remediation and sheet metal work were performed, and a modified late-model Westfalia pop-top was installed before the body was refinished in Mango Green (L346) and Pastel White (L90D). Deluxe-style bright trim is held in place with 3M adhesive, and additional exterior details include a shaved antenna, back-dated run-brake-turn LED taillights, right-side curb feelers, a removable hitch receiver frenched into the rear bumper, and a 40-watt solar panel affixed to the rooftop cargo basin. A 1966 ERKA folding trailer with a green tonneau cover accompanies the bus and features LED lighting and wood panels with a Pastel White frame and fenders. The 15″ Sprint Star-style alloy wheels are mounted with Yokohama tires. The bus rides on a 4″ narrowed and 1″ raised front beam with coilovers and Autohaus adjustable spring plates, 3.5″ horseshoe drop plates, and adjustable air suspension powered by a Viair 350C compressor at the rear. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The forward cabin houses heated PT Cruiser-sourced bucket seats trimmed in tan upholstery and the passenger seat swivels to face the rear. The controls for the air conditioning, air suspension, and Bluetooth-capable stereo are housed in the custom center console, and additional appointments include crank windows, three-point seatbelts, and a front and rear camera system linked to a 4.3″ screen in the rearview mirror. The pop-top requires finesse to close. The two-spoke steering wheel features a Porsche-crest horn button. Auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center of the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership. The right-side sliding door opens to reveal a tan-trimmed L-bench seat that folds into a bed. Japanese maple lines the insulated floors and additional appointments include a three-compartment refrigerator that is powered by propane, 110v or 12v, a two-burner stove, a sink, a 20-liter fresh water tank, a 5-lb. propane tank, fold-out tables, storage cabinets, privacy curtains, a fan, power outlets, and a pop-up tent with a bed platform and zip-open windows. Jail bars are fitted in the rear cargo area, and a front tan canvas hammock, a full length awning with removable walls, and a removable cassette-style toilet are included in the sale. The 2.1-liter Type 4 flat-four was rebuilt under current ownership and features a Porsche 914 2.0-liter camshaft, solid lifters and three-stud 2.0-liter cylinder heads, dual EMPI HPMX 40 carburetors, a 72-row external oil cooler with fan, a heavy-duty 30mm oil pump, 96mm hypereutectic pistons, and cast iron 96mm cylinders. Additional equipment includes Coldmasters air conditioning system, a dual-battery electrical system, a 105-amp alternator, a rebuilt gas heater, and a passive fire suppression system. Performing routine maintenance has been made easier with the addition of modified inspection hatches for the engine bay and fuel-level sender. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an 091 six-rib four-speed manual transaxle. The front wheel tubs were widened by 1″, and additional underside photos are presented in the gallery. The bus does not have a title, as it is registered in a province that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its British Columbia registration.
