This 1989 Volkswagen Vanagon GL is a pop-top Westfalia camper that was acquired new from Eero Volkswagen in Anchorage, Alaska by the current owner and is powered by a 2.1-liter flat-four paired with a three-speed automatic transaxle. Finished in Titian Red Metallic over gray velour, the van is fitted with external utility hookups, 14″ steel wheels, a Technics cassette stereo, swiveling captain’s chairs, a fire extinguisher, power door locks and windows, a flat-folding bench seat, and a kitchenette with a refrigerator and propane stove. Maintenance completed since 2020 is said to have included replacing the transmission pan and exhaust gaskets in addition to the drive belts and right front tie-rod end. This Vanagon is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a window sticker, sales documents, manufacturer’s literature, utility hoses, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Alaska title in the owner’s name. The van is finished in Titian Red Metallic with a gray stripe and Westfalia decals. Exterior details include a rear-hinged pop-up camper roof, a rear wiper, heated side mirrors, sliding side windows, and utility hookups. The windshield was replaced according to the seller. The right front mud flap is missing, and flaws such as worn decals, faded front grille trim, and paint chips along the body are shown in the photo gallery. Steel 14″ wheels wear Volkswagen-branded covers and are mounted with 185-width Nokian cLine tires showing 2018 date codes. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The seller states the front rotors, pads, and wheel bearings were replaced in 2018 as well as the rear brake shoes, drums, and wheel cylinders. The right front tie-rod end was reportedly replaced in 2021. The interior features swiveling front captain’s chairs trimmed in gray velour along with color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Additional equipment includes a Technics AM/FM cassette stereo, vent windows, all-weather floor mats, and power locks and windows. The air conditioning and cruise control are nonfunctional. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer and a tachometer with inset gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 122k miles. The rear compartment houses a fold-flat bench seat, storage cabinets, a sink, swing-out tray tables, a refrigerator, a propane-powered stove, a fire extinguisher, and window curtains. The seller notes that the refrigerator only works with electric power. The water-cooled 2.1-liter flat-four was factory rated at 90 horsepower and 117 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was completed in preparation for the sale and the seller reports that the left cylinder head was replaced in 2014, the right cylinder head was replaced in the early 2000s, and the drive belts were replaced in 2021. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transaxle. The transmission pan and exhaust gaskets were reportedly replaced in 2020. The window sticker shows initial delivery to Eero Volkswagen of Anchorage, Alaska, and lists equipment, colors, options, and a total price of $25,780. Manufacturer’s literature and utility hoses are also included in the sale. The Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage and lists history in Alaska from the first entry in 1999.
