Model: Ford Econoline Van

This Ford Econoline van was modified in the style of The Mystery Machine from the Scooby-Doo franchise in preparation for the 2021 SEMA Battle of the Builders competition. The van rides on a fabricated chassis and an air suspension, and it is equipped with remote-activated fold-down side panels and rear-hinged shaved front doors, a blue and green interior lined with shag carpets, and a multimedia system that consists of an Alpine head unit, Infinity audio components, and a drop-down 40″ television. The 6.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 and the five-speed 5R110 automatic transmission are fitted with a Garrett turbocharger and TransGo shift kit, respectively, and are controlled via custom management software and an SCT tuner module. A modified Dana 70 rear end is equipped with a Yukon Gear and Axle locking differential and 3.54 gear set as well as dual-rear-wheel axles. A roof rack, LED lighting, a power inverter, 16″ XD Series wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood front calipers are also fitted. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2001, this modified Econoline is now offered in Canada with a Manitoba Ownership Document listing the van as a 1961 model year. The body was removed from the frame and refinished in the style of the Mystery Machine van as seen in the Scooby-Doo franchise. Blue and green paint is accented by orange flowers and text, while simulated wear is incorporated throughout the exterior. The rear-hinged front doors have been shaved and are operated by a remote fob, which also activates the fold-down side panels to provide access to the interior, engine compartment, and drop-down TV. Further modifications consist of LED lighting, barn-style rear upper doors, a lower drop-down ramp, a flush-mounted fuel filler door, and a contoured roof rack. The valve on the front-mounted faux spare wheel is the backup access port for the air ride system. XD Series 16″ wheels are mounted with 205/55 front and 255/50 rear Toyo Versado Noir tires. The van rides on a fabricated frame and EZ air ride suspension with dual Viair compressors. Rack and pinion steering is equipped, and braking is handled by power-assisted cross-drilled discs and Wilwood multi-piston front calipers. The front bucket seats are upholstered in blue and green vinyl and trimmed with shag carpet, the latter of which also covers the floors and rear cargo area. The design scheme continues throughout the cabin, which was lined with Lizard Skin insulation material. A fabricated center console houses switchgear that controls various functions as well as an Alpine double-DIN head unit with navigation that is linked to Infinity components. Additional equipment includes a 110-volt inverter, an overhead console, and a Cobra CB radio. The three-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a Flaming River “shorty” steering column and fronts Stewart Warner instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and inset gauges for oil level, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. Additional readouts are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The digital odometer shows 200 miles, which is said to reflect the miles added since the build was completed. The 6.0-liter Power Stroke V8 was sourced from a 2006 E350, according to the seller, and fitted with a Garrett GT37 turbocharger, BD Diesel performance manifolds, up-pipes with EGR deletes, an aftermarket intake manifold, ARP head studs, and dual AGM batteries. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed 5R110 automatic transmission, which was also reportedly sourced from the aforementioned 2006 E350. The seller states that the following components have been fitted: Billet triple-disc torque converter TCS Products input shaft One-piece bronze bushing Alto power pack SPX Hi-Per Blue low/reverse piston Modified direct solenoid TransGo shift kit The Dana 70 differential was shortened and equipped with a Yukon Gear and Axle 3.54:1 gear set and a DuraGrip locking differential in addition to dual-rear-wheel axles. The transmission and engine are wired with a custom harness and controlled via software management programming uploaded to the SCT tuner mounted in the cabin. Photos showing different stages of the modification process are presented at the end of the gallery below. The car is not registered or insured and is offered with its Manitoba Ownership Document.
